The short answer
Have curcumin supplements reviewed before taking them with pazopanib. Liver injury has been reported with turmeric products containing curcuminoids, but the exact combined risk and the role of isolated curcumin remain uncertain.
What this answer covers
Curcumin-containing concentrated supplements with oral pazopanib, distinguishing turmeric mixtures and piperine-enhanced products from isolated curcumin and food seasoning.
- Supplement or preparation
- Curcumin
- Medication ingredient
- pazopanib
Check the exact treatment
This review concerns oral pazopanib tablets containing the hydrochloride salt, with doses expressed as pazopanib. It is used for specified advanced kidney cancer or soft-tissue sarcoma settings. Keep the prescribed fasting schedule and do not crush the tablets.
What the original cases show
A prospective liver-injury network described ten cases attributed to turmeric supplements, including severe illness. Seven available products were chemically tested, and three also contained piperine. This is a selected case series, not a comparison that measures how often users develop injury.
Keep the ingredient distinction clear
Curcumin is one of the curcuminoids in turmeric, but a turmeric supplement can contain other constituents and absorption enhancers. The cases do not isolate curcumin as the only cause or test the combination with pazopanib. Ordinary food seasoning is not equivalent to those concentrated products.
Coordinate supplements and liver testing
Pazopanib can cause serious liver injury and requires scheduled liver tests. Bring the complete supplement label, including black pepper or piperine, to the oncology team. Promptly report yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine or persistent nausea; spacing doses has not been shown to prevent this type of injury.
Evidence and practical considerations
Side effects & toxicity
A formulation-specific liver precaution is supported; turmeric case evidence cannot establish that every isolated curcumin product increases pazopanib toxicity.
- Exact scope
- Curcumin-containing concentrated supplements with oral pazopanib, distinguishing turmeric mixtures and piperine-enhanced products from isolated curcumin and food seasoning. with RxNorm 714438 IN pazopanib. Current exact oral product: Pazopanib oral hydrochloride tablets. Salt/formulation named explicitly; no transfer to unrelated drugs or routes.
- Medication form and route
- Oral
What remains uncertain
- Conditional constituent/formulation bridge from turmeric-associated injury, not a proven isolated-curcumin/pazopanib interaction. No combination incidence or uniform product risk.
Factors that may matter: Exact oral formulation and supplement preparation; Drug exposure versus clinical outcomes; Dose, duration and other medicines; Individual monitoring plan.
