What direct evidence raises concern?
One report describes difficult-to-control nosebleeding in a man who had recently started aspirin, garlic tablets and milk thistle. Because all three products were involved and the accessible report does not give their doses, it cannot identify garlic’s separate contribution. It is a reason for caution, not a prediction of how often the pair causes bleeding.
Did the garlic trial test taking it with aspirin?
No. In a trial of 62 healthy volunteers, aspirin was taken for one week, followed by a month without it before the garlic phase. The tested garlic tablets did not significantly alter platelet aggregation, although bleeding symptoms were reported. This sequence compared separate treatments and cannot establish whether taking both together adds risk.
Are food and supplement amounts equivalent?
A small trial found no impairment of platelet function after a food containing 4.2 grams of raw garlic, including a brief repeated-use assessment in five people. It did not include aspirin. This result helps distinguish a food preparation from concentrated supplements, but it does not define a universally safe amount for someone with bleeding risk.
Should I separate or replace either product?
No tested interval was found that makes the combination acceptable. Government guidance specifically advises discussing garlic supplements when aspirin is used. Bring the product label and dose to that discussion. If aspirin was prescribed for cardiovascular protection, do not replace it with garlic or stop it without advice from the prescribing clinician.
