The short answer
Extra caffeine may worsen palpitations, shakiness or trouble sleeping in someone taking orphenadrine, especially at high intake. Caffeine is intentionally included in some orphenadrine products, so the combination is not automatically prohibited.
What this answer covers
Caffeine from supplements, drinks and combination medicines; total exposure matters. Norgesic is not standalone extended-release orphenadrine.
- Supplement or preparation
- Caffeine
- Medication ingredient
- orphenadrine
Some products already contain caffeine
The current Norgesic label lists orphenadrine citrate, aspirin and caffeine together in each tablet. That prescribed combination directly contradicts a blanket rule that caffeine must always be avoided with orphenadrine.
Extra caffeine still changes the exposure
Caffeine is a stimulant. Orphenadrine can cause palpitations, tremor or agitation and its label calls for caution in some cardiac conditions. Large additional caffeine intake may add unwanted symptoms, but an exact extra-caffeine risk threshold has not been established.
Check which medicine you have
Standalone orphenadrine citrate extended-release tablets and Norgesic have different strengths and ingredients. Count caffeine already present in a combination tablet; the aspirin component adds separate considerations that are not caused by caffeine.
Use symptoms and total intake to guide review
Show the pharmacist your medicine and supplement labels if you develop insomnia, shakiness or palpitations. Do not use caffeine to overcome drowsiness before driving. No exact protective spacing interval or mandatory caffeine-free rule was established.
Evidence and practical considerations
Side effects & toxicity
Conditional concern with high additional caffeine and overlapping stimulant-like symptoms. Current Norgesic deliberately contains caffeine, so no blanket incompatibility, obligatory avoidance or quantified extra-exposure threshold is inferred.
- Exact scope
- Caffeine from supplements, drinks and combination medicines; total exposure matters. Norgesic is not standalone extended-release orphenadrine. with Oral orphenadrine citrate extended-release tablets; fixed aspirin/caffeine combination distinguished.
- Medication form and route
- oral medication; oral supplement
What remains uncertain
- No unmeasured pair incidence, blanket class transfer or arbitrary spacing interval.
