A study used the actual combination

An open-label study added dry inner-leaf gel to glimepiride, metformin and rosuvastatin and reported improved glucose measures. Its allocation method and inconsistent completion counts reduce confidence. It did not provide a reliable estimate of hypoglycemic events.

The absorption claim is unproven

The human study did not measure glimepiride concentrations. An animal experiment also measured glucose and insulin rather than drug exposure. These results support considering overlapping glucose effects, but not a claim that aloe increases absorption or slows medication clearance.

Gel is different from latex

The clinical product was inner-leaf gel. Aloe latex has different constituents and can cause cramps and diarrhea; whole-leaf products also differ. Neither a topical aloe product nor a different oral extract can be assumed to reproduce the study.

Use monitoring rather than a timing shortcut

Have your pharmacist review the preparation and your other diabetes medicines before starting or stopping it. Spacing aloe and glimepiride by a few hours has not been shown to prevent overlapping glucose effects. Medication adjustments belong with the prescriber.
