What the evidence supports
NIH guidance describes a small glucose-lowering effect of garlic supplements in diabetes. That supports considering the supplement when reviewing glucose changes, without proving that garlic causes clinically low glucose during glipizide treatment.
A diabetes trial is not an exact interaction trial
One study combined garlic with olive oil and several medicines, including glimepiride and metformin. It reported lipid improvements. It did not establish a garlic-glipizide hypoglycemia effect, and the ingredients cannot be disentangled from that abstract.
Check the actual preparation
Supplement processing changes the exposure. A concentrated capsule or oil is not automatically equivalent to culinary garlic, and a blend may contain other glucose-active ingredients. The botanical name alone does not give a predictable effect.
Review changes in glucose
Discuss the exact product and amount with the diabetes team before starting or changing it. Follow your established glucose-monitoring and low-glucose treatment plan; do not adjust glipizide yourself. There is no established supplement-specific dose cut or protective spacing interval.
