Where did the idea come from?

A thirty-one-patient study involved gastrointestinal pathology and poor thyroid control. Taking levothyroxine with dissolved vitamin C was associated with lower TSH and higher free T4. It was a small period-comparison study rather than a large randomized trial.

What did newer research add?

A 2025 pilot randomized study had only eleven completers. It found an exploratory signal, but the groups differed substantially at baseline and the unadjusted TSH comparison remained uncertain. The researchers stated that the study could not establish efficacy.

Is improved absorption proven?

Changes in thyroid tests are consistent with an effect in selected patients. They do not directly measure how much medicine crossed the intestine, and the studies cannot establish the same mechanism or benefit for every person.

Should I try a study dose?

The investigated amounts are not a personal dosing recommendation. Poor thyroid control needs assessment of the medicine routine, other products and medical conditions. Levothyroxine over- and undertreatment both carry risks, so any change intended to alter its effect needs a monitoring plan from the treating clinician.
