Early sodium loss was transient
A small six-day study found increased urinary sodium and urine volume mainly on the first day, with later return toward baseline despite continued urinary glucose loss. This was not a sodium-replacement trial.
Volume change does not prove deficiency
A placebo-controlled study found an early plasma-volume reduction that largely attenuated by twelve weeks. The drug’s volume-depletion warning supports clinical assessment, not automatic sodium supplementation.
Dietary associations are not a salt prescription
A post hoc CREDENCE analysis found that estimated sodium intake related differently to some outcomes depending on treatment. Sodium intake was not randomized, and the analysis cannot justify deliberately increasing salt or abandoning an existing restriction.
Keep the individualized plan
Discuss dizziness, poor intake or fluid-loss illness with the clinician. Follow the prescribed sodium and fluid advice, particularly with kidney or heart disease. No protective sodium-dosing interval or fixed replacement amount is established.
