The short answer

Magnesium matters when used as an antacid. Keep it at least two hours before or after dasatinib according to the oral product instructions, and confirm the actual formulation with the pharmacist.

What this answer covers

Oral dasatinib and magnesium in an acid-neutralizing antacid. Nutritional salts without equivalent antacid activity are not automatically the same exposure.

Check the exact treatment

This review concerns oral dasatinib tablets. Conventional tablets and PHYRAGO contain the same active ingredient but can differ in their response to acid-reducing medicines. Keep the exact prescribed product and have its directions checked before changing a supplement or antacid.

Identify the product’s purpose

The concern is reduced drug availability when an antacid changes the stomach environment. Magnesium on a nutrition label alone does not establish an antacid dose or acid-neutralizing effect. Check the salt, strength and whether it is sold for indigestion, mineral replacement or another purpose.

What the original study measured

A volunteer study found much lower dasatinib exposure when an aluminum/magnesium hydroxide antacid was taken together with the drug. Giving that mixture two hours earlier avoided a relevant change in total exposure. The result does not quantify the effect of every mineral salt.

Keep the timing and formulation together

For both conventional dasatinib tablets and PHYRAGO, antacids need at least two hours of separation. PHYRAGO reports different findings with certain longer-acting acid reducers, so those findings should not be applied to another dasatinib formulation. Do not switch products or acid medicines yourself.

Evidence and practical considerations

Timing & monitoring

The current exact oral instructions support a preparation-specific antacid interval rather than a blanket interaction with every mineral supplement.

Exact scope
Oral dasatinib and magnesium in an acid-neutralizing antacid. Nutritional salts without equivalent antacid activity are not automatically the same exposure. with RxNorm 475342 IN dasatinib. Current exact oral product: Dasatinib oral monohydrate tablets. Salt/formulation named explicitly; no transfer to unrelated drugs or routes.

Oral

What remains uncertain

  • Exact oral antacid instruction; no universal mineral binding effect or salt-specific cancer-outcome evidence. PHYRAGO acid-reducer findings differ from conventional formulation; antacid spacing retained for both.

Factors that may matter: Exact oral formulation and supplement preparation; Drug exposure versus clinical outcomes; Dose, duration and other medicines; Individual monitoring plan.

Population: Patients prescribed the exact oral formulation.

Antacids two hours apart; avoid strong CYP3A inducers; bleeding and thrombocytopenia warnings.

How this applies: RxNorm 475342 IN dasatinib. Current exact oral product: Dasatinib oral monohydrate tablets. Salt/formulation named explicitly; no transfer to unrelated drugs or routes.

Exact current oral product source, not a clinical trial of every supplement. Formulation, dose, population and mechanism remain explicit.

Source 2: Original clinical research

Population: 24 healthy volunteers in crossover.

Simultaneous antacid reduced exposure 55–58%; two-hour prior administration did not change total exposure.

How this applies: Exact reported preparation, population and endpoints; transfer to dasatinib explicitly limited.

Abstract-only specific mixture, not every mineral supplement or calcium salt. No clinical response endpoint.

Population: Patients prescribed PHYRAGO.

Antacid at least two hours before/after; no clinically significant omeprazole/famotidine PK difference reported.

How this applies: Exact ingredient with explicit formulation boundary.

Formulation-specific findings; no transfer of H2/PPI null result to conventional dasatinib.
