Can I take Ganoderma with Heparin?

The short answer

Ganoderma has not been shown to change heparin absorption or cause added bleeding. A trial of Ganoderma lucidum found no impairment of measured hemostasis, but it did not include heparin and cannot cover every Ganoderma product.

What the trial found

Forty healthy volunteers received G. lucidum capsules or placebo for four weeks. Platelet and global clotting measurements remained normal and did not differ significantly between groups. This challenges extrapolation from earlier laboratory platelet-inhibition findings.

Normal tests are not universal safety proof

The trial assessed hemostatic tests in healthy people, not actual bleeding during heparin therapy or surgery. Its authors’ inference about surgical safety should not be treated as an observed combination outcome.

Absorption is not the demonstrated mechanism

The heparin label states that heparin is not absorbed through the digestive tract and is given by injection. No reviewed evidence shows that oral Ganoderma changes injected heparin exposure or anticoagulant effectiveness.

Confirm the mushroom product

Tell the heparin team about the exact supplement before starting or changing it. Report unusual bleeding or bruising promptly; serious bleeding, black stools or vomiting blood needs urgent assessment. Do not change prescribed heparin yourself. The genus name alone does not identify the studied species, part or extract, and no safe dosing gap has been established.
