Can I take Aloe Vera with Insulin Glargine?

The short answer

Aloe gel has not been shown to cause added hypoglycemia with insulin glargine. A small study with oral diabetes drugs cannot establish this combination’s safety or risk.

The human trial used other medicines

A small trial added aloe gel to glyburide and metformin, improving glucose measures and reporting no adverse effects in its abstract. It did not test insulin glargine.

A glucose improvement is not a risk rate

Lower average glucose does not itself demonstrate clinical hypoglycemia. The trial cannot quantify harm from the exact glargine combination, and a small study reporting no adverse effects does not prove safety.

Distinguish aloe preparations

Oral gel differs from latex and whole-leaf products; topical gel is a different route. Findings for a specified gel cannot be applied to every aloe supplement.

Follow the glargine product plan

Discuss the exact product and amount with the diabetes team and follow your glucose-monitoring and low-glucose treatment plan. Do not adjust insulin yourself.
