Avoid L-phenylalanine supplements while taking isocarboxazid unless your prescriber has specifically directed their use. Marplan names phenylalanine as a substance that may trigger hypertension and headache.
Scope: Oral L-phenylalanine supplements with oral isocarboxazid. The label names phenylalanine without specifying stereochemistry; applying this precaution to supplemental L-phenylalanine is reasonable, but D-phenylalanine and DL mixtures are not independently assessed.
