The oral findings vary

One small study found a modest reduction in diastolic pressure after repeated high-dose oral L-arginine. Another found no significant blood-pressure change after a single tested oral dose. Neither studied lofexidine.

Infusion results are different

A large intravenous dose lowered pressure in the dose-and-route study, while the tested oral dose did not. That infusion effect should not be used to predict the effect of your supplement.

Your current treatment makes symptoms important

Lofexidine requires blood-pressure and pulse monitoring during opioid withdrawal treatment. Bring the L-arginine dose and other pressure-affecting products to the team. No safe combined dose or protective interval is established.

What to do if you become lightheaded

If you feel dizzy or faint, sit or lie down. The lofexidine label tells outpatients with symptoms of low blood pressure or a slow pulse to withhold a dose and contact the prescriber for guidance. Follow your treatment team’s monitoring plan; do not make a permanent abrupt stop on your own.

Population: Adults receiving treatment for opioid withdrawal symptoms.

Can cause hypotension, bradycardia, syncope and sedation. Avoid medicines lowering pulse or pressure; potentiates benzodiazepine CNS depression and is expected to potentiate other sedating drugs. Correct hypokalemia/hypomagnesemia first and monitor ECG at initiation in those patients because lofexidine prolongs QT. Abrupt discontinuation can raise blood pressure.
