The original findings were mixed
Ginkgo extract altered insulin responses differently across small diabetes subgroups. Even the subgroup with increased insulin secretion did not show lower glucose during the glucose-tolerance test.
A proposed mechanism was not a drug-level result
The authors proposed altered clearance, but the abstract did not establish glyburide exposure or an exact glyburide subgroup. This is not proof that ginkgo increases or reduces this drug’s clinical safety.
Glyburide already has a hypoglycemia risk
Glyburide stimulates insulin release and can cause serious low glucose. Poor intake, alcohol, kidney or liver impairment, and other glucose-lowering treatment can increase susceptibility. These risks do not provide a supplement-specific event rate.
Review changes without adjusting the prescription yourself
