The short answer
Semaglutide does not establish a routine need for chromium. Oral chromium should fit around semaglutide-tablet administration instructions; injected semaglutide does not require the same gap.
What this answer covers
Chromium supplements, not an established deficiency diagnosis; oral versus injected semaglutide.
- Supplement or preparation
- Chromium
- Medication ingredient
- semaglutide
No replacement requirement is established
The semaglutide labels do not establish chromium depletion or a chromium-replacement regimen. A change in appetite or glucose control does not by itself diagnose a mineral deficiency.
Tablet timing differs from injection timing
Take a semaglutide tablet on an empty stomach in the morning with up to 4 ounces of plain water. Wait at least 30 minutes before food, drinks or another oral product, including a supplement. Weekly injections do not have this fasting or 30-minute rule.
Why tablets are taken alone
In a healthy-participant study, five placebo tablets taken with oral semaglutide reduced semaglutide exposure. Chromium was not studied, so the result cannot predict a chromium-specific percentage change.
Review the whole supplement plan
Discuss why chromium is being used and follow the prescribed glucose-monitoring plan. Do not add chromium automatically, change semaglutide yourself, or assume that spacing makes a glucose-lowering supplement risk-free.
Evidence and practical considerations
Timing & monitoring
Conditional oral-tablet timing supported by current exact labels and co-tablet pharmacokinetic study; no increased supplement need, universal avoidance or injection gap established.
- Exact scope
- Chromium supplements, not an established deficiency diagnosis; oral versus injected semaglutide. with Semaglutide RxCUI 1991302 IN; exact oral-tablet and subcutaneous formulation boundaries.
- Medication form and route
- oral medication; subcutaneous medication; oral supplement
What remains uncertain
- No supplement-specific percentage, event rate, nutrient requirement or injection gap established.
Factors that may matter: Formulation; Preparation; Insulin or sulfonylurea co-use; Gastrointestinal symptoms.

Population: Patients prescribed the named semaglutide formulation
Glucose-dependent insulin/glucagon effects; hypoglycemia risk with insulin/secretagogues. Gastric-emptying precautions. Oral tablets require fasting morning dosing with up to 4 ounces plain water and at least 30 minutes before other oral medicines, food or drink. Weekly injections can be given with or without meals.
How this applies: Exact named semaglutide formulation; oral and subcutaneous administration distinguished.
No ingredient-specific supplement interaction or routine nutrient need established. Tablet strengths/formulations not automatically interchangeable; injection has no tablet fasting rule.

Population: Patients prescribed the named semaglutide formulation
Weekly subcutaneous dosing with or without meals. Glucose-dependent effects; hypoglycemia risk with insulin/secretagogues. Gastric emptying delayed but studied oral drugs had no clinically relevant absorption effect.
How this applies: Exact named semaglutide formulation; oral and subcutaneous administration distinguished.
No ingredient-specific supplement interaction or routine nutrient need established. Tablet strengths/formulations not automatically interchangeable; injection has no tablet fasting rule.

Population: 45 healthy participants in two-part study
Co-administration with placebo tablets reduced semaglutide exposure by 34%. Levothyroxine exposure increased in a different comparison.
How this applies: Supports oral administration conditions, not herb-specific pharmacokinetics or clinical harm.
Placebo tablets, not any named supplement. Not injected semaglutide or a proven percentage effect for current different tablet formulations. Abstract only.
